Yes. At Ignite we value all of our volunteers because they are a huge part of what makes Ignite great! The number of volunteer days required depends on the number of families participating at our co-op for the year. However, you will not be required to volunteer more than 6 days.
Our high school students are able to pick their schedule from the current course offerings. There is no minimum class requirement.
Our elementary and middle school classes is offered as a complete program and must attend all classes offered in their program.
In lower elementary (K5-2nd) grades are not given. However, teachers are happy to give feedback throughout the year and classwork is sent home with the child if you wish to assign a grade for their work.
In upper elementary (3rd-5th), grades will be introduced during the 2nd/3rd quarter. Not all assignments will be graded, but the idea of graded assignments will be introduced. Parents may opt to have these grades submitted directly to them instead of to the student.
Teachers will give grades for assignments and assessments, as well as cumulative grades at the end of each quarter and the end of the school year. However, as the parent, you have the final authority for the grade that is earned for the class.
In lower elementary (K5-2nd) grades monthly packets will be sent home to encourage parents to assess their student's skills. Occassionally, students will receive an assignment or project to complete at home. However, we know our elementary parents are focused on phonics and math at home on non-coop days and we want to allow time for completion of that work.
In upper elementary (3rd-5th), students will begin seeing small assignments being sent home. We feel it is a good time to introduce student's to the concept of working on class work on non-coop days as they will be required to do so in middle school. Slowly building these skills and accountability into our upper elementary students will better prepare them for future grades. Assignments may be questions from a scieince lesson, hands on projects and/or reading for literature. Although this work is expected to be completed, the amount of work will leave plenty of time for the student's to complete their ELA and math curriculums.
Teachers will assignments for students to complete on non-coop days. Homework assignments will be announced in class, posted in google classroom and/or listed on class calendars. Students are expected to complete the assignments as given. Assignments can include reading for literature, writing paragraphs/papers, creating a hands on project, answering questions from a class lecture and/or completing an at home test.
